I Survived Summer Reading and.... [Aug. 12th, 2009|12:51 pm]
Seth Green is My Co-Pilot
all I got is this stupid colonoscopy.  Tomorrow I am having  a colonoscopy. I thought about cut-tagging it but I'm not going into any detail. I'm too young for this but my father had colon cancer and my doctor thinks it's important to have one.

I think the most unpleasant thing about this whole experience is the fasting. I can't eat anything but "clear liquids" today.  Clear liquids are not food.

To distract myself, I  loaded up on books, DVDs, and CDs. I must stay away from the TV because I naturally gravitate to Food Network, Man Vs. Food and Top Chef. Food=good.  Even the "Why Yer Fat" RSS feed is making me hungry.

I will also be catching up journal posts. The only good thing about summer reading is that when it's over, I have lots of fic to read!

LOL, the Spell Checker offers the following replacements for colonoscopy: cloudscape, kaleidoscope.

Good luck. I've had several flexible sigmoidoscopies, upper and lower GI series, and small-bowel enemas because I've had problems with my gut since I was a little girl. I haven't had a colonscopy yet. They put you completely under, don't they?

Each time I've had to prepare I got so ravenously hungry. Also, I hate that crap you have to drink to cleanse. It's horrible. Do you still have to do it for a couple of days? I haven' had a flex sig in a few years. Your post reminds me that I need to schedule my first colonscopy. I call bullshit on waiting until you're exactly 50. I'm 47, and I'm going to do it in the next few months.

From what I've read, they will put my completely under. If they don't, I'm going to complain. I want to sleep through this thing.

I only have to fast today. My procedure is 6am tomorrow so I will go about 30-40 hours without food. I did find out that Hansen sodas are clear so that helps. I don't usually drink soda but any port in a storm. I start drinking the cleanse stuff at 6pm and then again at 2am. I am not looking forward to it but I will probably be so hungry that I won't care.

I'm 41 so it was weird being the youngest person in the doctor's office. Most of his patients were my parents age. I've known people who have had it done at 35. I think family history plays a major role in how young you get it.

I'll let you know how it turns out!

You are actually quite lucky you aren't taking the "cleansing" stuff kaydee mentioned. I don't think I have ever felt/been so miserable, and that's really saying something. Most disgusting stuff ever.

Good luck, hope the test comes back clean! haha, I made a poop joke =P

Actually, I start the MoviPrep cleanse at 6pm and then again at 2am. I am not looking forward to it. Everyone says it's the worst part of the procedure.

Poop jokes are always appreciated!
