Hey, it's me again. With some rants, too.

Quick note: Some of these, YMMV.

I'm afraid I'm a bit long winded. )

I had a good conversation on the phone with my rabbi today. (he's no longer A rabbi but MY rabbi) It went very well. He was very enthusiastic about my conversion and helpful. There are only two slots open for the conversion class, so I'm getting in under the wire. I'm very excited.

Andrew will not be coming tomorrow, which is a bummer. He's going to be going to Atlanta instead, talking to an Orthodox rabbi about converting. He says it's something that's important to him. He converted Reform three years ago but he feels like something is missing. I wish him all the best on his path.

Of course the rabbi asked the very broad question: "Why do you want to convert?" It's extremely hard to put into a few words when there are SO MANY reasons why, and so many things that attract me. I explained that I've been on the conversion path for two years and gave a shortish answer that seemed to be enough for him.

In related news, I've gone back to vegetarianism.

I encountered this problem long ago and forgot about it until I entered a new fandom recently, where it's way too common...

Yes, I get that one guy in the pairing is significantly taller than the other guy.  However, I really really don't want to see the phrase "pocket-sized" in a sex scene.  It conjures up images of Pokemon and definitely not sexy.

Okay, fanbrat, I realise you want to write a little hurt/comfort fic, and really, there’s nothing wrong with that.

The problem comes when you give your strapping football player stage three ALL (leukaemia). Not stage one, or even two, no you really want this boy to suffer so you give him stage three. I think we can all agree this boy is pretty sick if he’s got stage three ALL.
Cut for lots of long winded medical talk )

Do The Hustle
Post-series

”Eureka!” Andrew ran into the room, waving a large book. When Buffy and Xander shot him a curious look, he sighed. ”You're supposed to reply 'You don't smell-a so good yourself.' Anyway, you said the Izzeemarc demons' power crystals make them invincible?”

”Yeah...?”

”Couldn't we trick them into giving us the crystals?” He showed them the book: 100 Cons And Scams.

”Like... winning the crystals at three-card monte?” Xander looked skeptical. ”I know they're not too smart, but would that work?”

Buffy shrugged. ”As long as they don't beware of geeks bearing grifts.”

For non Torchwood fans need to add that Capt John is James Marsters. Since season 3 of Torchwood has not been shown in America yet there may be spoilers.

Tall, hot hipster brunette: I mean, when I see girls flocking around him when he's DJing I just think "oh, they are DJ whores."
Little Asian friend: Uh-huh.
Tall, hot hipster brunette: But this girl has never seen him DJ or anything. I don't get it. It's beyond my level of comprehension.
Little Asian friend: It's okay, me too.
Tall, hot hipster brunette: It's like he has a slut whistle and we cannot hear that frequency.

And Yet He Ruined the 2000 Election [Jul. 12th, 2009|06:00 am]
overheardnyc

Good Samaritan, rushing in: Chad told me to ask you for your first aid kit. Do you know Chad? Some lady got hit by a taxi!
Cashier: Yeah, he's our boss.
(they leave with kit, cook returns a few minutes later)
Cook
: Yo, Chad's a hero. That woman's head was in a pool of blood. She's gonna need more than that first aid kit.

Cashier: It would be a guy named Chad who stops to help someone laying in the street. Most people see that and say "Yo, I gotta get to work." You never see an Omar or Carlos stop to help someone. It would be a guy named Chad!
